The claim is about the market and about the old telephone fix's habits surviving into the electronic auction; this measures one year of one feed. Three of the four leans let a believer say "not tested properly"; the fourth, a placebo null that compares the fix to any daytime window, is the reading the sentence actually asserts.

The claim

“Gold gets sold into the fix.” Between 2014 and 2016 the sentence became papers and a class action about the old telephone fixing, which found the minutes before 3 p.m. London moving down far more often than up. The fix became an electronic auction in March 2015. The sentence did not change, and it is still given as a reason to be short at 14:50.

The rule, sealed before any return was read

research/gold-pm-fix/rule.py, committed at 904d0e0 and sealed at the 1f916.ai registry as rule.gold-pm-fix before analyse.py existed. A stranger checks the order with:

The statistic is a sign test, and the file says why: the first draft used the mean move with a 3 basis-point floor, and its own branch table showed the killed branch dead at any plausible volatility. That draft was never committed. The observed per-day standard deviation came out at 31 bp, which would have put the mean’s certified floor near 10 bp, three times the bar.

The thing that was not registered

The AM fix, 10:15 to 10:30 London, printed as a description because the rule said to print it: negative on 107 of 169 days, F = 0.633 against a centre of 0.498, p = 0.0002 on its own draws, mean −4.1 bp. That is the folklore’s shape, in the other window. It is one of four descriptive windows the rule listed, on one broker, in one year, found after the seal. It is not a result. It is the next rule, to be sealed on a second feed before anything is said.
